MLM Marketing Key - Building Relationships

When you first started with your network marketing company, you made lists of your top one hundred or so prospects. This was a fantastic way to jump start your business. Maybe you were fortunate and had great results or, like me, maybe you didn't have quite the luck you first thought was possible. Which ever spot you find yourself in, you may be wondering what step to take next. First of all it does matter where you are at. We will assume you are still dealing with your friends, family, and acquaintances, or your warm market.

Most likely you have been told to work on building new relationships. Don't have the mind set that you won't need to work on your current relationships if you are still working with your warm list. Granted, the relationship is already built. But, for better results, you need to work on the relationship, and not work on the selling.

Look at it this way. You, personally, don't want to be "sold" to. So, apply this rule to others. Don't sell. Not to your warm list, not to your cold list, not to anybody. Think of two people, they know each other casually, and ~wham~ out of the blue one asks the other to marry them! Weird, yes. But, sometimes that is the effect we have when we present our offer to people.

This is termed as a "Push". And who likes pushy people. What ideally should happen is a "Pull". A slow gradual pull, not where you lasso them and forcible yank them to you. But a gradual magnetic pulling towards you and your wonderful business. So slight that they never notice.

OK, so then how to you approach this? As you would in growing a garden. Nurture, constantly. If you want to be a success in this type of business, it's all about relationships.

Think:


F - Family
O - Occupation
R - Recreation
M - Money

Then ask:


You: Hey June how's the family doing?
June: Great!!! The kids are getting ready to finish school for the year and hitting the summer.
You: That sounds great. How's your new job going?
June: Well, my job is going well, but Steve is about to lose his. The company may not be
around much longer due to the company laying off people.
You: Well, that's not good. Hey, let me ask you this. If there was a way that I could help you guys out financially, would you like more information?
June: Sure!
You: When can we get together?
June: Tomorrow night, I get off at 5 and it's a free night for us.

You need to keep this statement in mind: "If there was a way that I could help you...would you like more information?"

When you carry on a normal conversation, not trying to push your business, you will find that not every one is doing well. At some point, the conversation will turn negative about money, especially in this economic environment. You, then, are in the position to help. To nurture. To slowly show that there is a way to change their situation.

I can absolutely guarantee you one thing. If you constantly hit them over the head with your opportunity, not only will they not sign up, but people will run from you when they see you coming. And if you never have had a decent conversation with someone, other than a passing "Hi" in the past, they will resent your sudden attention in what seems to be to a scheme to use them for your profit.

Try taking another approach, a softer one. Like your garden, give it time to grow and flourish once you plant the seed! You have a prime opportunity to really help people, to drastically change their lives. Don't force the issue and blow it. You will have to show you care about your prospects before they will care about what you have for them, especially when it comes to money. Work on those relationships.
